Christian Education Offers Many Ways to Grow in Faith

Throughout the year the Christianity Education Ministry offers growth opportunities for all ages. Formal classes for adults, young adults, youth , children and toddlers provide learning experiences from the traditional to the creative.  Scripture drama, music, interactive role play,  and  traditional curriculum are used to enhance the time together and build a platform for spiritual growth and disciple-making.

Sunday School

Based on the teachings of Jesus, Christian Education coordinates Sunday School  classes for all ages, as part of the educational ministry of the church.   Lessons vary from seasonal studies on Advent, Lent, and United Methodism, and from United Methodist resources, sermon themes, baptism and Holy Communion. Teachers use creative approaches that incorporate art, music, drama and reading the Bible aloud.

Black History Celebration

Music, drama, visual displays, digital images and presentations help us share the journey of African Americans from slavery to Capitol Hill.  We tell the story of plight to prominence, poverty to progress and prayer to promise.  Something special each year-Dr. Joe P. Conrelius, Rashad "tha Poet", Chadasha Gospel Choir of Belmont University, Elements of Worship and Friends, and our own Youth Choir are a few of the guests. Add John Wesley UMC to your family's list of Black History Month venues.

Christmas Program and Potluck Dinner Fly
Christmas Program and Dinner

The annual Christmas program allows participants of all ages  to share the good news of Jesus' birth through drama, recitation, and music.

The Christmas Dinner is a potluck delight with all of the trimmings.  Great fellowship, food, music complete the celebration, as participants reflect on the gift of the season.

Sunday Breakfast

Breakfast is prepared each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. This ministry is funded primarily through the generosity of members and friends.  A complete waffle bar with fruit and other toppings compliments the scrambled eggs, bacon , turkey sausage, biscuits, and a variety of juices. Sometimes the main dishes are fried chicken or shrimp and grits.  This is a wonderful fellowship that provides an easy transition to Sunday school classes for all ages.
