Christian Education Offers Many Ways to Grow in Faith
Throughout the year the Christianity Education Ministry offers growth opportunities for all ages. Formal classes for adults, young adults, youth , children and toddlers provide learning experiences from the traditional to the creative. Scripture drama, music, interactive role play, and traditional curriculum are used to enhance the time together and build a platform for spiritual growth and disciple-making.
Sunday School
Black History Celebration
Based on the teachings of Jesus, Christian Education coordinates Sunday School classes for all ages, as part of the educational ministry of the church. Lessons vary from seasonal studies on Advent, Lent, and United Methodism, and from United Methodist resources, sermon themes, baptism and Holy Communion. Teachers use creative approaches that incorporate art, music, drama and reading the Bible aloud.
Music, drama, visual displays, digital images, and presentations help us share the journey of African Americans from slavery to Capitol Hill. We tell the story of plight to prominence, poverty to progress, and prayer to promise. Special presentations incorporate the national Black History Month theme and are highlights of the worship service. Add John Wesley UMC to your family's Black History Month venues.
VBS
Drama in Worship
Each year a theme is chosen that is experienced through bible-based storytelling, music, symbols, and inspirational messages placed throughout the space. Group dynamics bring life through queries about the subject, shared in general sessions and age-specific classroom settings. When Juneteenth happens during the five-day VBS experience, special art, images, food, and dramatic interpretations help share the story of freedom.
Seasonal dramatic interpretations allow children, youth, and adults to characterize Bible icons, tell the story of the birth of Christ to the resurrection. Music, costumes, and powerful narration bring Scriptures to life in an inspiring and memorable way. Typically, at Christmas and Easter, families can share the beauty of these special celebrations as a lasting tradition.
